We recently snapped RAV MATHRA, expert tailer, designer and found og east London label Clothsurgeon, on the streets of his native city.
Rav Matharu is the founder and chief designer of east London menswear label Clothsurgeon. Having worked at a major streetwear brand for three years following graduation, he decided to take his skills and go it alone, developing a style of garment that is part street chic, part gentlemanly attire. His mature style of clothing has earned him widespread praise in many major fashion periodicals, and his items have been snapped up by celebrities such as A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar.

As a master of his trade, Rav knows exactly what makes a well-balanced outfit – right from his made-tomeasure garments, to his choice of accessories, to the B&O PLAY‘ headphones on his head. Since graduating with first class honours in fashion design and technology, Rav Matharu has been at the (literal) cutting edge of modern menswear. Combining his skills as a tailor along with his love of contemporary streetwear, he has helped usher in a new wave of hybrid, highclass menswear to the streets of London and beyond. Those blurred lines can be seen here in his choice of outfit, in which all clothing comes from his own Clothsurgeon brand.
A single-breasted sports blazer is layered over a thick oversized tee, buttoned just once (naturally) and accented with a subtle pocket square. The tapered trousers have a generous drape, are turned up above each ankle for a more summery feel and striped to contrast the tones above. The shoes are a simple, everyday pair of Vans Old Skool to help dress down the formality of the jacket, while a Clothsurgeon bag, pair of Tom Ford sunglasses and BeoPlay H6 headphones all reaffirm the overall air of luxury. Picked out against the monochrome tones are a silver Rolex and Rav’s most prized possession, his precious tape-measure, a custom piece made as a gift from his wife, hanging around his neck.
